Dean’s Letter to the students

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Students,

On 1 October 2020, the ceremonial inauguration of the new academic year 2020/21 was held at the University of Wrocław, also at the Faculty of Letters of our University.
So, here we go.
For many of you, this is the first year of your studies at our faculty; others will continue their undergraduate or graduate studies. Among you, there are also doctoral students.
I am glad that you study at the Faculty of Letters which is the largest faculty of our university. The institutes and chairs (in total, there are ten units) that make up our faculty have attractive programme offers for you. The city of Wrocław is a great place to study, too.
We all know that this new academic year is not easy. The reason is known: the COVID-19 pandemic.
I can assure you that both the faculty authorities and the heads of all our units have provided you with the best possible conditions for studying in this challenging situation. The institutes and chairs have already published timetables and schedules. Your teachers are already in contact with you regarding the principles and forms of their classes. The faculty building administrators have prepared the facilities following current sanitary and epidemiological principles. The faculty administration employees working in the institutes and chairs as well as in the Dean’s Office work in the best possible way to ensure that all student’s affairs are handled. The general principles are known; let me remind you of Announcement no. 11/2020 of the Dean of the Faculty of Letters of the University of Warsaw of 15 September 2020.
I know that there are no perfect things and that there are many unforeseen situations. However, as a faculty, we try to make sure that the semester that has just begun is both safe as well as active and inspiring.
You can also contact the faculty vice-deans who are responsible for specific matters. Professor Monika Zaśko-Zielińska makes decisions concerning full-time studies, professor Anna Małgorzewicz is responsible for part-time studies, professor Justyna Ziarkowska deals with scientific activities (including the “Young Researcher” / “Młody Badacz” programme), professor Stefan Kiedroń handles the matters related to the activities of numerous scientific student associations functioning at our faculty, the needs of students with disabilities and grants, professor Elżbieta Skibińska-Cieńska, Doctoral School head, deals with doctoral grants.
And… have I already mentioned that Wrocław is a great city to study?

I wish you every success during your studies at our faculty.
Arkadiusz Lewicki
Dean of the Faculty of Letters
